Robert William Stanley

Robert William Stanley was born April 18, 1941. His home of record is Portland, Oregon although he was born in Baker Oregon. Robert crashed 15 miles NW of Tam Ky, on April 1, 1967. His official status is Missing in Action.

Capt. Stanley graduated from Oregon State University. Robert left for OfficersTraining School five days after he got married, then went on to flight school and active duty.

Capt. Stanley, then a lieutenant, was flying the rear seat of an F4 Phantom, dive bombing a target in the mountains east of Da Nang when he was shot down. None of the three other planes in the flight saw what happened. They saw no parachutes. When a party of Marines fought their way to the spot deep in the Viet Cong jungle three days later they found no parachutes and no sign that Capt. Stanley and the aircraft commander had gone down with the plane. At that time they were were believed to have ejected and parachuted into the jungle.
