The Bathroom Sink

sink

To push the project through the whole inspection process I got a temporary sink, from The Rebuilding Center, planning to replace it later on with something less traditional, an above counter bowl to go on a countertop that matches the floor.

mirrir

The first step was to frame and hang the mirror behind the counter. It is a salvaged mirror, also from The Rebuilding Center, and framed in a style similar to the trim in the house. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out a way to take a good picture of the whole mirror. Trust me, it looks nice.

In the end, what I settled on was a beautiful glass sink made for me by local glass artist Linda Ethier. I installed the sink and plumbing fixtures on the countertop first and attached installed the counter to the cabinet.

sink

It doesn't show very well in pictures, but the sink itself is translucent with embedded leaf patterns which echo the leaf patterns in the floor and countertop.

Along with the sink I retrofitted a light fixture and Linda made leaf patterned glass for it as well.

light

The fixture itself came from Hippo Hardware and was a similar design to the other coper fixtures, except that it wasn't copper.

So I got a copper patina kit and transformed it, or parts of it. The original was a ceiling fixture that has become a wall fixture, so not all the parts were useful.

A copper reflector covered the wiring holes from it's previous incarnation.

Then the glass was inserted...

...and voila! a unique light.
