Week 2 - The Basement

As the sewer was going in, and before the driveway could be dug, the basement had to have a temporary wall constructed to support the corner next to where the garage/basement wall will be built. The support wall had to go up before the excavation starts, but first the existing room in that location had to be emptied and dismantled.

Since the room in this corner was my sewing room (no picture), it meant moving everything out and storing it elsewhere in the basement until the support wall was finished. Once that was done I had to remove the drop ceiling, an old unused water line, carpeting and pad, and panelling. Some of this material was saved for later or recycled, but much went into the dumpster.

Eventually the stud wall was exposed, and the basement wall which will eventually be removed. At this point I needed to deal with the basement phone line and an electrical outlet. The outlet was especially important because the carpenter wanted it left live and on the outside of the support wall that was to be built so that he could use it for his tools. Eventually, I cut loose the studs had electrical running through them and moved them into the corner, leaving the outlet loose. The carpenter then tied it into position where he wanted it. The phone line was simply removed

Once the area was cleared, a temporary support wall went up about three feet into the space, leaving a small storage area inside the basement for tools and materials, once the outside wall came down.

Once the plywood was up on th wall, I moved everything from my sewing room back into the remaining space, plus a lot of other crap that I need to store somewhere while this whole thing is going on.

the end of week 1

So by the end of this two weeks, the sewer is reconnected, the water line is in the ground but ends at the house, the trench is filled, and I have a big muddy mess instead of a front yard. I also have a storage area where my sewing room used to be.
