Week 25 - Priming![]()
At this point I'm madly working to get the outside primed and (hopefully) painted before the weather changes. The siding came preprimed, so the only part that needs to be done is the exposed wood. Basically, I just started at the back corner of the garage and worked my way around the house using latex where appropriate and switching to oil based for the cedar parts. The area under the eaves was quite challenging to reach with a ladder in some places. Sadly I'm not a tidy painter, which is part of the reason that no plants have gone back into the front yard. ![]()
Priming the house with the ladder convinced me that it would be worth it to get scaffolding for the actual painting. It's the only way I'll be able to reach everything comfortably enough to be good with the details. I need to be steadier, especially when applying the trim and accent colors. ![]()
I ran out of the oil based primer just short of finishing the trim on the porch and will need to get some more, but by the end of the week I had sort of a ghost house. Very interesting look. ![]()
When it was too dark to work outside, there was still plenty to do inside. I spent one evening screwing, taping and mudding the garage drywall. Not as pretty as a professional would do it, but good enough for a garage. I will still need to do the between-the-beams pieces that are required by city code, but I do have a plan and hope to get back to that next week. ![]()
More fun, since major painting is done in the office, I started to lay the floor in there. (see floor). The week pretty much consisted of painting during the daylight and laying floor at night. top |
