Week 16 - Floors![]()
The bathroom floor became my highest priority, once the schedule was back on track, because it needed to be down before the plumber could be scheduled. First up was the underlayment for the mosaic. This turned out to be quick and easy since standard backer board is exactly the same width as the room itself. Once that was done, I started laying the floor itself. (see bathroom floor) ![]()
In the pivotal three door junction, my diamond design meant to tie all the floors together was marked out (see floor 1) and one side cut into the existing living room floor boards. Then the rest of the subfloor was leveled and raised to the proper height with a layer of plywood, and the underlayment was put down. ![]()
The garage was prepared for the concrete floor with a heavy layer of gravel which was graded and compacted. This gravel base made a huge difference to the look and feel of the space. ![]()
A large area of the sidewalk had been removed or damaged during the sewer reconnect, and in the general course of the project. The damaged areas were taken up and cleared out then forms for the new sidewalk were put down. ![]()
And form were put in for the base under my front steps, although the measurements were wrong when I checked them. But I called Slater and we worked out exactly how far forward this pad should go. It was important because the pad is one step height above the front steps and wanted to be sure that the "step" was also a comfortable distance between my two sets of stairs. ![]()
The door that goes between the garage and the basement arrived and was installed. It's unusually short, which should prepare people for the lack of head room in my basement. But now that it is in place I can take down the support wall inside the basement, which has been serving as a security wall. All I have to do is move everything stored in front of it. ![]()
And finally, the window and door trim was ordered and delivered. Something else that I have agreed to install myself, but not soon. Week 17 - Concrete & Electrical top |
