The Doorframes![]()
When I had the doors in place, it was finally possible to see how far out of the pocket they would come when fully closed, and frame down the doorway to that size on the livingroom side. It actually turned out to be a couple of inches. ![]()
With the trim in place, when the doors are closed, the outside edges of the doors are no longer exposed. ![]()
Once the doors were in and framed down, the next thing was to put stops in the double doors so that they couldn't be pulled out of the tracks any more. I did this by adding a rubber bumper to the last screw that holds the track in place. It doesn't provide exact positioning for the fully closed door, but close enough for now. Only one of the three doors comes out slightly too far. I think I can fix this by modifying the rubber bumper. ![]()
The livingroom side was done first and changed to look of the room much more than I had expected. ![]()
The other side was more difficult. because of the right angle open corners where the three doors meet. I should have clamped the corner s before nailing them. I also wish I had painted the inside of the pocket a dark color when it would have been relatively easy. It is much more visible than I expected. ![]()
The hallway doorframe gave a much more finished look to the hall. ![]()
One of the hazards of waiting a year to finish this trim is that I have not been able to locate all the pieces. i am no longer sure where the two headers for the office are, but they were clearly labeled. Until I'm sure the I accidentally cannibalized them into something else, I will leave this part unfinished. Now that the doorframes are in place, the baseboards can also be finished. top |
