the paint

As a side trip I decided to paint my old office a brighter color (it was also a way to put off doing my taxes). But with everything out of the room and the walls painted a flat color, all the flaws in the old lath and plaster became glaringly obvious; cracks, dings, divots, patches, and bulges.

Eventually, The lath and plaster walls will be replaced with drywall, but not until the windows, closet and doorway are finished. I dont want to go to that much trouble and mess only to have to patch it a few years down the road. So I decided to busy it up.

the sketch

First I sketched a vine on the wall that hit all the really bad spots, then I attached flowers to it.

Then I started with the vine and buds, using some of the green from my livingroom.

flowers

Using paints from elsewhere in the project to mix the colors I wanted to do the flowers, starting with the outside petals on the white flowers.

Then the inner petals.

I added small brownish-pink flowers, which dried darker than I liked...

...so I faded them back with the base color.

I added a different kind of brown flower.

Finally, I went back to the lighter colors and added centers to some and drooping panicles sort of randomly.

More than busy enough to disguise the flaws, but not a room you want to be in if you have a hangover.
