This item (Fan Lounge, 11 a.m. Sunday) isn't exactly a quiz but a chance to grill EoF contributing error Dave Langford about the book's eccentricities. Watch Langford writhe on the hook -- listen to unconvincing evasions like "That was all Clute's fault!" Written questions welcome ... otherwise be prepared to ask loudly (owing to famous hearing trouble). Encyclopedia of Fantasy on-line corrections & updates -- 24,000 words of material -- are one link away from the Langford home page at http://www.ansible.demon.co.uk

The MST3K Program tonight at midnight will be Cyber Ninja, preceded by an episode of Ultraman. There will be an invention exchange at halftime.
This (unnamed) reporter ran out of steam before all of the parties could be visited. The Rule 6 (Quiet) party provided a hug and much-welcomed back rub.
I stepped through one doorway and was immediately transported to Hawaii, the site of the 2000 Westercon. The Hawaiian influence could be seen in the colorful tropical fish on the walls and shell necklaces draped on the lights. The taste of Hawaiian ranged from macadamia nuts and pineapple chunks to a Maui onion dip.
The most interesting decorations I saw were at the TISATAAFM (There Is Such A Thing As A Free Munch) party. A hologram and photos of planets were prominently displayed. The Oregon L5 Society is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
By the time I reached the Tor party, the cake was gone. However, I received some excellent descriptions of the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas.
Another unnamed reporter complained that all the cake was gone by the time she got to Edd Vick & Amy Thomson's 40th birthday party. (This should be looked into! The mystery of the Missing Cakes!) Otherwise it was a good party.

Hospitality and the night office crew would like to thank the Greater Portland Area Costumers' Guild for their food donations last night. You can thank them in person; they're going to try to have another party, Sunday 4-5:30 p.m., Room 521. (Look for signs.)

DUFF Administrator Janice Murray would also like people to vote. DUFF candidates are Lise Eisenberg, Janice Gelb and Andy Hooper. The deadline to get the ballot to her (or Australian Administrator Terry Frost) is midnight March 31, 1999.

Mere minutes before going to press with the noon clue, Freak J. (#151) walked into the OryCon Office with the Treasure Hunt object, thereby winning for himself a free membership for next year. He used the 10 a.m. clue to orient himself to the four corners of the Doubletree grounds, where he spotted a large metal ring on the ground -- and the rest was merely a matter of finding the magnet clinging to the inside of the circle.
Last chance to buy raffle tickets will be Sunday at noon! Buy early and often.

The other interesting new news was from Susan de Guardiola, who said that Ed Kramer has signed a contract for future Dragoncons from 2001-2005 for Labor Day weekend.
They have a voodoo message board, which lacks pins, notepaper, and a box for notes. (They say to use stickers, not pins, but those are equally missing.) My thought is "unclear on the concept."
Phil Foglio gave the slide show "The Capture." After a few technical difficulties (no, he didn't display the slides by holding a flashlight behind them and running around the audience; he didn't have a flashlight) it ran fine. Afterwards, he revealed that its author (Bob Asprin) is now working as a street musician in New Orleans.
