When Julie Newmar agreed to make a guest appearance--as herself--on Melrose Place (March 18), she had no idea it would turn into a fashion crisis. Seems there's a jacuzzi scene with Billy (Andrew Shue) in the script and although Newmar was relieved to learn that Melrose Place producers had no intention of asking her to do the scene nude, she nearly panicked when she realized she had nothing to wear! "Then," said the sixty-two-year-old actress, "I remembered I had a pale blue lace bikini bra and panties set in my underwear drawer. I thought, you always look very nice in that when you disrobe, so I called them back and told them I had this baby blue bra and panties and they said, 'We like that!'" The bra and panties were just the beginning.

"I talked to the wardrobe person and told her to go get me a dress that is shimmery, like pearls. She went all over Beverly Hills and came back with a marvelous thing she bought in a lingerie department. I told her to shorten it to the knee and put a little Velcro on, so when I flip it open it looks natural. They put the camera where I asked them to, which is at my ankles [and panned up]. Most actress don't like that, because it can show double chins. But I like it because it makes me look tall [which she is]. So I walked ever so sweetly into the jacuzzi with my baby blue bikini panties on. I haven't seen the show yet, but I heard from the cameraman that it looks really dazzling. And there I am with this twenty-eight-year-old, and I thought, what the heck, Julie. You do look good."
