Quite a few things have happened since we last talked... The biggest happening being A&E's Biography of our favorite, Julie Newmar! She's also been out and about at various fairs and conventions. Keep a look out, she may be stopping by your town, ya never know! For right now, you should tune in Ron Smith's website
http://www.geocities.com/juliecat4444 for all up to the moment information.
I'm sorry to say that Julie's office have announced that they are discontinueing the sale of photos, and autographed photos. And Julie's time has become such that she will no longer be able to autograph items that you already have. It's sad that we lose this link to our favorite lady, but a necessary one. If you've sent in a photo for a signature, they will be returned, unsigned, as soon as is possible. But, with the innundation of mail Julie has been getting, it may take a while for your item to be returned. Julie will still appear at conventions and shows, and will have items there to purchase and have signed.
Julie's latest movie is now called "If Dog, Rabbit." The Matthew Modine film also stars Bruce
Dern, John Hurt and Lisa Marie. A release date is still unknown.
Julie appeared in Denver Colorado April 5th. Anyone get a chance to go and meet her?
Julie reprised her role as Stupefyin' Jones on stage the week of March 26! Felix Ramirez was lucky enough to go, and sent back this review! It has been added to the Julie Newmar Library. Be sure to take a look!
Julie appeared at the Los Angeles Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention on March 1st to sign autographs. Anyone get any great pictures they'd care to share?
As many know, Julie is embroiled in a fight against City Hall regarding leaf blowers. An article in The Wall Street Journal, a segment on Good Morning America, and one on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show". David Sutton from The 1966 Batman TV Trivia Site has provided us with two video captures of Julie on The Daily Show. Julie being interviewed, and Julie in her office.
Julie had a role in "If...Dog...Rabbit", the Matthew Modine project. The film is set in a tortilla factory in Tijuana. It also stars John Hurt and Lisa Marie. Julie plays Lisa Marie's alcoholic mother. It is currently available on video.
I'd like to make a clarification: Julie is NOT appearing in the new "Mr. Magoo" Disney film. I'm sorry if it sounded like that! Kelly Lynch plays a thief in the film, wearing a tight black vinyl outfit, making her indeed look like a Catwoman wanna-be.
I had the honor of meeting Julie November 2nd at a collectibles show (I am thrilled and humbled by the fact that Julie knew of The Julie Newmar Backpage, by name!). Other appearances are also in the works (including a possible UK appearance). I've heard that the Harrisburg PA appearance was a huge success! Hope everyone had a great time! I STILL haven't received any photos from that show though! Someone must have had a camera there!
Julie is also starring in a CD-ROM interactive computer game called, "Land of Lore, Guardians of
Destiny," which should be available now. It was produced in September of 1996 in Las Vegas Nevada,
through Westwood Studios. Check it out and tell me what you think of the game, and of course, of Julie's performance!
Julie appeared in a SLATES pants commercial. SLATES is a Levi's product. The commercial is a black and white concept spot, so I'm told (I haven't been able to see it yet!). Bill Matlack recognized Julie's voice on the commercial from another room! (Did you buy any pants because of it Bill?) Julie also told me that she enjoyed doing the commercial and was happy about the way it all turned out. Maybe they'll ask her to do more!?
The Julie Newmar Exhibition
The gathering of photos is still growing!
