South Sister

View of South Sister (el. 10,358 ft) and Middle Sister from near the Mt. Bachelor ski area entrance, September 22, 2000.
A small lake at the base of the Lewis Glacier just short of 9000 ft.
View of the same lake, a minor cinder cone on South Sister's flank, and Broken Top in the distance.
Looking down on the Lewis Glacier (note late summer crevasses) and the little lake with Mt. Bachelor in the distance.
The entire ascent route can be seen here. Sparks Lake to upper left, Moraine Lake to the left of the large flat plain, and the small lake seen earlier at the base of the Lewis Glacier, about 1300 feet below.
Mt. Bachelor from the summit crater rim. A storm had parked on the summit the night before and given everything a fresh layer of rime ice.
Summit Crater. Ordinarily Teardrop Pool, the highest lake in Oregon, forms in this depression in the summit crater during the summer - it had frozen solid with the storm and cold temperatures of the previous 36 hours.
The view of Broken Top from the summit.
Looking down on the clouds and Carver Lake at the base of the Prouty Glacier about 2000 feet below.
Summit view of Middle and North Sisters, with Mt. Jefferson and Mt. Hood visible in the distance.
A look back at South Sister during the hike out.
A final look back from Century Drive (from L to R: the South, Middle, and North Sisters and Broken Top).
