Destination: Across The Nation
A Family-Style Epic on the TransAmerica Bike Trail
7/19/07 - Rest Day in Cave City, KY - 0mi / 0:00 / 0.0mph [0 vert] - Total So Far: 3007.0mi
A few observations on the trip - some universal truths:
- there aren't very many places to hide in the wide-open spaces of the west and take care of . . . uh . . . business
- no matter how hideous a "laser" farmer tan you have going . . . your kids will always find a way to guilt you into the
pool or the local swimming hole. Resistance is futile.
- very few hotels that claim to have in-room wireless access have reliable in-room wireless access
- after spending as many days as I have on rural roads going 15-20 miles-per-hour, getting in a car and driving at 65 is
frightening
- the number of road-yummies decreases significantly once you enter Missouri for some reason . . . the body count in the
West is spectacular - largely due to prairie dogs (and antelope)
- however, the number of armadillo victims seen in Missouri was stunning
- nothing is more satisfying (or is dispatched as quickly) than a Mello-Yello after 80 miles when the temp is in the 90's
- there is absolutely nothing cooler than getting to get up every day and ride point-to-point on a bike over roads you've never
seen before, nor will likely ever see again
