A Family-Style Epic on the TransAmerica Bike Trail

7/12/07 - Golden City, MO to Marshfield, MO - 82.9mi / 5:16 / 15.6mph [1780 vert] - Total So Far: 2432.5mi

First day of rain on the entire trip. Just amounted to some mist and drips only - never really even got wet. Good to be out of the sun!

This part of Missouri is absolutely beautiful. Reminds me very much of riding around Northern Virginia. Small roads, ups & downs galore, lots of twists & turns, and never on any one road for more than 10 miles or so (as opposed to Western Kansas where you could spend an entire six-hour ride on a single, dead straight, flat road).

Cycling through the Ozarks in Missouri has been compared to a self-propelled roller-coaster ride. At one point today I hit 43mph on a downhill - then 30 seconds after bottoming out was in my granniest of granny gears going back up the other side!

Amy visited Fantastic Caverns today while I was out pedaling. The limestone of this area is riddled with caverns.

Today was day #1 with dog-chasing to spice things up as well. Never had any hombres who wanted a piece of me - seems they all want to run along until they get pooped, then they turn around and go back to their yards (he says with fingers crossed!).
