"This way to more of Nothing" These types of little quips have been spray-painted on the road every 10-20 miles for the last few hundred miles. They are excellent.

Father & son fellow Eastbounders Arthur & Raleigh slept not too far from us at the City Park in Tribune last night. Unfortunately they were too late getting in to enjoy a shower or a dip in the pool the evening before. I caught up with them after their stop for breakfast in the little town of Leoti. After a brief chat we agreed we'd likely see each other later in the day in Ness City. They like to stop in at most towns and get a bite, do some shopping, or at least get a drink. I had put several hours into them by the end of the day. When they arrived in Ness City we all agreed that the winds & heat had not treated us as kindly as the day before.
Another state - another time change

Also met another pair of Eastbounders. Derek & Raphie got started in Florence, Oregon as I had and were headed for New York City. They also agreed that the heat was getting intolerable. Humidity remains in the low 20% range so the wind, heat, and low humidity combine to apply some serious suction to whatever water stores you think you might have on board.
I think it'd be really cool to be a rancher who dabbles in oil on the side. I'm thinking I'd have to get a really huge cowboy hat to wear.

A beast of the prarie hard at work - these machines are mammoth.

The Ness City Park was excellent. Shower, pool (cost $1), and even a softball tournament right there in the park for entertainment. Little did we know that the softball tournament would continue until 45 minutes after midnight. Oh well, their town . . . not ours.
