A Family-Style Epic on the TransAmerica Bike Trail

6/18/07 - Blue River, OR to Camp Sherman, OR - 56.4mi / 4:02 / 14mph [3855 vert] - Total So Far: 167.7mi

Day two - a day spent almost entirely climbing. Blue River is at an elevation of 1100 feet or so. Had to motor up and over Santiam Pass (elevation 4815) to get to Camp Sherman and the Leithauser's place where we linked up with my Mom. My Mom will be along for the trip with us all the way through the hinterlands of Eastern Oregon to Boise, Idaho where she'll catch a plane and head back East.

Another beautiful morning with temps starting out in the low 50's.

Met my first fellow "East-bounders" today on the way up Santiam Pass. Kevin & Mary are on day two of a trip from Corvallis to Wisconsin on a tandem with a trailer in tow. They were headed to Prineville today so I may very well be running into them again tomorrow.

After climbing most of the morning the run from the top of Santiam Pass down to Camp Sherman was pretty sweet. Kind of a short day but awesome to be able to enjoy the hospitality of some long-time friends.

The triple: Black Butte Porter fluid repletion in progress, Black Butte Porter jersey (thanks, guys!), and the real Black Butte in the background!

Sue and Floyd put on an excellent riverside cookout along the banks of the Metolius River.

An evening shot of Mt. Jefferson looming above the Metolius
