State #4!

First day in Colorado and first big Colorado climb. Reached the summit of Willow Creek Pass (el. 9683 ft) after essentially a 60-mile uphill approach. Once across the Colorado border the road kept angling up in small steps and just didn't give any back.

Some impressive scenery on the downhill ride after climbing Willow Creek Pass.

The downhill dash to Hot Sulphur Springs was a fun one, though our current overnight spot means that I'll be topping out on Hoosier Pass tomorrow (the highest point of the entire ride at 11,542 ft) at about mile 80 on the day. Oofah!

Byer Canyon just outside of Hot Sulphur Springs. That's the Colorado River pinched in down there.

Had another splendid day of vacuuming up the American landscape. The day included events such as Twist Cone with Rainbow Sprinkles, Giant Bald Eagle on the Side of the Road, Witness of Westbound Cyclist Toppling Over after Crossing his Buddy's Rear Wheel, Buffalo Sighting, and the North Park Pioneer Museum in Walden, CO (which apparently is one of the major highlights of the whole trip).

We all enjoyed a dip in the Colorado River after we set up the camper this afternoon - just a short walk from camp.

Was thinking about it and I've been pedaling along at 7000-8500 feet for all of the last five days. I'm wondering what my hematocrit is right about now?! I told Amy it's probably OK to go ahead and stow the EPO away in the cooler for now.
