BRINGING BACK THE GOOD OLD DAYS – PUBLIC EVENTS IN 2010 It has brought to my
attention that there are those that want to attend, but misplace this
once-a-year list. I hope this
calendar solves the problem. Not
all events are known at this time, and some
are subject to change. Keep
in touch for changes, activities, directions, etc.
Your response keeps you on this list.
Otherwise, you will be dropped. Send
SASE c/o Merv Johnson for more info. 6150 SW 190th, Beaverton, Or 97007 or (e-mail)

e-mail, put “steam logging” in the subject box to avoid deleting.
We do not open e-mail we do
not recognize. We have a web
site listed under http://www.spiritone.com/~camp2/index.html

------------------------------DEER
ISLAND 1/8 SCALE LOGGING June
5 & Aug 21 date is held open pending hearing from you.
1/8 scale size logging in the woods at Deer Island, OR. Alan & Paula’s place.
33678 Caanan Rd. For those
who wish to get their hands dirty, action includes steep ground, nettles, brush,
and other hazards of real logging. We load to the railroad, then dump the logs
near the tail block in the canyon. We expect to have one or more locomotives
this year. Notice:
We will do this on these dates only if we are notified at least two weeks
ahead, otherwise it will be a work party for the railroad.
[See below.] Note: you must
let us know if you are coming. We
need five people to run the logging part of the show. DEER
ISLAND WORK PARTY. HELP WANTED! Selected Mondays to be arranged. If you are available on a Monday, please us know. We
will beef up the spur to the turntable, plus general track maintenance.
If you are interested in helping out, contact me (Merv) 503-649-1732.
The locomotive shed/car barn is complete.
The turntable is operational, as are both trestles.
As of Feb 2010, I am installing a hydraulic drive in our I.C. switch
engine. The railroad is in
operation now! We still need to
work on the track and replace part of the logging spur. Note:
we might also work in lieu of a show day if we do not hear from you about doing
our logging show. We
will most likely run the train even if there is not enough people for a logging
show. THE REAL THING:July 2. Rig-up
day set aside for the
“Real Thing.” We welcome
volunteers on the crew, and we will be stressing safety, hard hats for most
jobs, gloves, caulks if you got ‘em, and we will provide a release of
liability to be signed. Mike’s
“new” Willamette has a new 55 ft sled and is expected to be in operation
plus his steam Willamette loader. His
White log truck of 50’s vintage will be there, along with a Cat 60.
July 3 & 4
The “Real Thing.” These
days we will log in the woods. Public
hours: 10-5 on Sat, 1-5 on Sunday. (The
crew will be much earlier.) 90 Ft
tree rigged for yarding and loading. Same
rules as above apply. Notice:
if the weather gets too dry, we will be unable to log due to state forest
regulations. This would be a sad
day, but we are at the mercy of mother-nature.
