Spasm Preferences

Use the Spasm Preferences screen to specify how Spasm should behave whenever you use it.

There are two types of preferences you might see on this screen, some of which will only appear if you have a domain hosted with us. Preferences specific to domain owners are listed at the bottom of this page.

Spasm Preferences

  • Keep me logged in: If this is checked, Spasm will set a cookie on your computer that allows you to bypass the login screen on subsequent visits to the Spasm interface, taking you directly to the Quarantine.
  • Log/Quarantine Entries per page: Specifies how many messages are displayed per page in the Quarantine and Log screens.
  • Date Format: Controls the way Spasm displays dates in the Quarantine and Logs.
  • Maximum Subject Length: The number of characters Spasm displays for the message Subject. This must be set to a number between 0 and 99. The special value 0 (zero) disables subject truncation, displaying the full subject in the quarantine. Setting this to a moderate value, such as 50, will prevent most quarantines from extending beyond the edges of the browser window.
  • Maximum Sender Length: The number of characters Spasm displays for the message Sender. This must be set to a number between 0 and 99. The special value 0 (zero) disables subject truncation, displaying the full sender address in the quarantine. Setting this to a moderate value, such as 50, will prevent most quarantines from extending beyond the edges of the browser window.
  • Subject Tagging: When enabled, this option causes spasm to prepend the string **** X-spasm **** to the Subject: header of a Quarantined or Tagged email message. Subject Tagging is useful for email clients (notably Outlook Express) which do not support spam filtering via the custom headers that spasm is capable of generating when an anti-spam filter is triggered.
  • Logging: Enables or disables logging based on selections made in the Custom setting of the Mail Filters screen. Those filters containing a check in the box next to the filter will be logged.
  • SpamAssassin Score in Quarantine: Places the score SpamAssassin gave the message, a numerical value, on the Quarantine page. The higher the number, the "spammier" SpamAssassin considered the message. This is useful in deciding the value to give SA_REQUIRED_HITS in the Custom settings of the Mail Filters screen.
  • Fonts: Control the font size of Spasm's display.
    • Headers: Used on errors and confirmation text.
    • Body Text: All other text, such as the Subject and Sender in the Quarantine.
  • Quarantine Messages Expire In: This sets how long Spasm will hold messages in the quarantine before automatically deleting them.
  • Quarantine Reminders Sent Every: Sets the interval at which "reminder emails" are sent. Reminder emails include the number of messages currently in the quarantine, as well as a link to Spasm. Use this if you don't want to have to remember to check your spam filters daily.
  • Log Entries Expire in: This sets how long Spasm will hold log entries before deleting them.
  • Clear All Quarantine Messages: This, predictably, deletes all quarantined messages. This is non-reversible. Use this button to remove all quarantined messages en masse.
  • Additional Accounts: If you have another mailbox on our system and you would like both to share the same Spasm interface, use the Add Additional Account button to add that account's Spasm settings, Log, and Quarantine to your current account. For security purposes, each additional account is authenticated using the Username, Password, and ISP of the account.

Domain owners will also see the following Preferences:

  • Default Domain Account: This setting specifies which Quarantine screen shows up when you first log in to Spasm. Keep in mind that settings, quarantines, Blacklists, Whitelists, and Logs are stored separately for SpiritOne addresses and owned domains. Regardless of how this is set, the top drop-down menu can still be used to toggle between owned domains and the underlying SpiritOne address.
  • Enable Virtual Addresses: This setting will only appear when a domain is selected in the top drop-down menu. Enabling this setting allows different filter settings, Blacklists, and Whitelists for individual addresses in a domain. If this is disabled, all addresses within a domain will share the same Spasm filter settings, Blacklist, and Whitelist. When enabled, use the second drop-down menu to switch between settings for virtual addresses.

What are People Saying about SpiritOne?

"I hear of the problems with all the other internet services and I always recommend SpiritOne. They have great tech support and service and no matter what question I have they've been able to answer it. I'm getting ready to move to St. Helens so I was very happy when I heard they're there and I won't have to change my provider. I will always recommend SpiritOne!"
