Zoom X6 Wireless Configuration

These configuration instructions will guide you through configuring your Zoom X6 modem to function as a wireless access point. The configuration requires a computer connected to your modem using an ethernet cable. You cannot use a wireless connection to configure the wireless settings on the modem.

  1. First, configure the Zoom X6 modem in Routed Bridged, using the instructions on this page.
  2. Open a web browser and enter 10.0.0.2 in the Address Bar. You should receive a prompt to enter a username and password, unless you have already changed them. Enter "admin" for the username and "zoomadsl" for the password.
  3. Zoom login screen
  4. Click on the icon labeled Wireless at the top of the screen.

You should see the following screen:
  5. Set the Wireless Status drop-down menu to Enable.
  6. By default, the SSID will be set to zoom. It is strongly recommended that you change this setting so you can more easily distinguish your network from that of your neighbors. There are few rules governing what you can and cannot name your network. In general, letters and numbers are okay, as are periods, hyphens, and underscores.
  7. Set Hide SSID to False (this can be set to True, but doing so will greatly complicate connecting to your wireless network).
  8. When setting the Encryption, you may want to refer to the manual that came with the modem. For simplicity's sake, this guide only covers setting this to WEP-64 bit even though other settings will provide greater security.
  9. In the Key 1 box, enter a WEP Key with no spaces. For a 64-bit WEP key, the Key will consist of 5 hexadecimal pairs of letters and numbers (numerals 0 - 9, and letters A through F are valid). To generate a random WEP Key, use this online key generator. Write the key down! You will need it later.
  10. Hit the Save Changes button.
  11. Then, hit the Write Settings to Flash button.
  12. That's it! You should be able to connect to the Internet using a wireless connection. When you first try to connect, you will be prompted for the WEP key you generated above. This key must be entered on every computer that connects to the wireless connection. Don't worry, you'll only need to enter it once or twice on each computer, then your computer will save it for you.
