DSL Modem Configurations

Which instructions do I use?

You'll notice there are two sets of instructions for each modem, one for Transparent Bridging, and one for Routed Bridging. When the modem is configured in Transparent Bridging, the static IP addresses assigned by SpiritOne to your DSL line are placed on devices behind the modem. Configuring a DSL modem in Routed Bridging allows the modem to act as a router. The static IP address supplied by SpiritOne is placed on the modem itself, allowing a single IP address to be shared with more than one computer.

If you have a hardware firewall or router, or are going to be running any kind of server, use the instructions for Transparent Bridging

If you will be connecting one or more computers directly to the modem, and have only a hub or switch behind the modem, use the Routed Bridging instructions.
