YARDING LOGS

Consolidated Timber Co. Glenwood, Oregon.(Kinsey photo)

Moving log's out of the woods after they have been cut down, came to be known as "yarding" logs.  As the methods of logging changed and evolved, the rigging and methods used to bring the timber in, became more complex, and varied from place to place.  The photo to the left shows a typical landing, with the crew posing for the photo on a log still attached to the rigging.  The illustration below shows just one method of rigging the donkey to yard the timber up to the loading site, the high-lead system.
